Introducing Musique Lab 2

The Musique Lab 2 project is jointly supported by IRCAM, the French Minister of National Education, and the French Minister of Culture. Extensive exchanges between music teachers and Ircam researchers laid the foundation for the project's primary application, the Musique Lab 2 (ML2) Software.

This software is based on OpenMusic, a computer-assisted composition tool designed by the Ircam Musical Representations team that has aided composers, researchers and musicologists for years.

The ML2 software is envisioned as a design tool for interactive musical analysis courses. With this powerful tool, students will be able to explore the compositional processes at stake in a work and engage its formal mechanisms through various recomposition strategies. Examples of such reconstructive techniques can be found throughout the application.
